Honors Rock Program (audition required)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This is a program designed for serious rock players who want to study the actual techniques of Rock. Our Rock faculty are both performers and educators, so be prepared to be in a demanding group of classes taught by the Pros. On the first day of camp, our faculty will conduct informal auditions and place you in a band with campers at your skill level. With our small classes, the focus will be on you! Our goal is for you to leave our program as an all-around awesome Rock player! And... we invite highly advanced students to audition for our Honors Rock Ensemble!

REQUIREMENTS

  • Entering grades 9-12 in the fall. (qualified younger students may enroll with an audition and a teacher recommendation)
  • Recommended 3 years experience on your instrument or voice.
  • All applicants who meet the above requirements may enroll in the Camp.*
  • All bass, guitar, and wind players must bring their own instrument to Camp. (bass players and guitarists should also bring their amp, cable, and a cart). Vocalists should bring their own mic and XLR cable. Dorm participants may rent an amp from the camp.
  • *There is limited enrollment for bass, drums, and piano.

ADVANCED ROCK PROGRAM

ROCK SEMINAR
Faculty will discuss what makes a rock band great, music biz - how to get gigs, the ins and outs of recording, rock theory, and more! (vocalists will participate in our Vocal Techniques Seminar)

10:15 - 11:15

TECHNIQUE CLASS
Contemporary Drum, Bass, Rock Guitar, Keyboard
(vocalists will participate in our Music Biz class.)

11:30 - 12:00

LUNCH (Lunch is included in the camp tuition)
In the UM Cafeteria, you will be able to select from the grill (hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries), salad bar, pizza, hot meal of the day, and the deli. Fresh fruits, desserts, and beverages are all included.

12:15 - 1:15

ROCK FORUM: performance, gigging and audition tips, faculty concert, talent show, jam session, master classes, panel discussions and more!

ROCK BAND
Our faculty listens to everyone play on the first day and then places students with other players at their level.

(part 2) a chance to delve into alternative rock styles.

Honors Rock Ensemble This special class is open by audition to rock players who are more advanced than their age and grade level. You will be coached by our Honors Faculty - made up of UM Frost School of Music professors, selected Frost Graduate students, and artists who love to work with exceptional young musicians. The Honors Rock Ensemble will perform in our Final Concert where each musician will receive a certificate of participation, signed by your Honors professors.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR AUDITION FOR THE HONORS ENSEMBLE

  • For Piano, Bass, Guitar, Drums, and Voice students.
  • A recommendation from your music teacher - Deadline: MAY 1.
  • An audition demo is required: 10-minute maximum. Deadline: MAY 1. All auditions must be submitted as a high-quality video file or a YouTube link. Your demo should show you playing in 2 different rock styles (rock, funk, blues, etc.) either with a band or a play along. Make sure that both you and the band can be heard evenly.   • Campers will be notified of the Honors Committee decision by May 15.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons given by our camp staff may be scheduled after regular dismissal. The lessons are one hour long and all of the instructors are part of our camp faculty. The classes are held daily, except for the last day of the session. Once your camper has attended all the daily classes and met the faculty, email the camp the following information: name of professor your child would like a lesson with and on what instrument. Send to: youngmusicianscamp@gmail.com and we will tell you the days the professor is available for lessons. The camp cannot re-schedule a missed private lesson.

HOW TO APPLY

Please follow these steps to Register:

Click on the "Register Here" Link for the Track that applies to you below. The Link will take you to the Session Selection Page and the Cart for your Program. There is no need to filter or search for your Program on the Session Selection Page as long as you used the correct "Register Here" Link for your specific Program. Make sure you know the e-mail address of your music teacher. Also, please decide if you want to add an optional class and/or a private lesson for an additional fee.

On the Session Selection Page, Click on the "ADD TO CART" Link for your Program. Make sure the Program Name and Track are correct. Your Program will automatically move into "YOUR SHOPPING CART". Click on the CONTINUE Link in the Shopping Cart, which will take you to the Registration Information Page where you can begin the registration process.

Complete the following information to Register.

  • Section 1: Enter Your Email Address and Click "NEXT".
  • Section 2: Enter Participants & Options. Complete the required Participant Information. "Session Options" for your program will be pre-selected. Additional classes offered appear as "Optional Classes" and may be selected by checking the appropriate Box or Boxes. Click CONTINUE.
  • Section 3: Please complete the Registration Forms, including the Waivers and Agreements, and sign your Digital Signature. Click "CONTINUE TO CART".

Review Cart & Check out. Review the accuracy of the "ORDER DETAILS". If you have a Coupon Code, enter it now.

Go to the "CHECK OUT" Section and select either "PAY IN FULL" or "Pay $0.00 now, and then Pay Balance manually".

Click COMPLETE and you will receive a Confirmation E-mail with the details of your Order.

You can login to your Online account at any time to verify your registration and pay your balance. A $200 deposit is required to reserve your child's place and an additional $200 to reserve the Dormitory. This includes your $40 ($75 after April 1) non-refundable Registration Fee. Deposits are due within 10 days of registration. There will be NO refunds issued except for a documented medical emergency. Full payment is due 1 month prior to the start of each session.

You will receive an e-mail confirmation when your payment has been processed.
