If you are entering grades 5-8 and have been playing your instrument for about 2 years, then our Intermediate Classical Music Program is for you! And... we invite highly advanced students to audition for our Honors Chamber Music Ensembles!

So join us this summer and immerse yourself in Classical Music!

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The goal of this program is for campers to experience 2 weeks of concentrated study improving what he/she knows and getting exposed to the idea of improvisation. Campers will spend 2 hours each day rehearsing in their Performing Ensembles plus have a technique class on their instrument and a Music Skills class! Suzuki violin students in Books 3-6 can have fun in a special group class for them! They also will enjoy our NEW "Intro to Improv" classes. Our Classical faculty are both performers and educators who are dedicated to giving campers the best experience possible And don't forget to save the date- we end camp with a concert where every camper performs with their class!

REQUIREMENTS

  • Entering grades 5-8 in the fall.
  • Has studied their instrument for at least 2 years.
  • Completed Book 2 of a standard music series in their instrument.
  • Younger students may enroll with a Teacher Recommendation.
  • All applicants who meet these requirements may enroll in the Camp.
  • All string and wind players must bring their own instrument to Camp.

After our morning classes, we walk to the UM cafeteria. Campers will be able to select from the grill (hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries), salad bar, pizza, hot meal of the day, and the deli. There are also fresh fruits, desserts, and beverages.

HONORS CHAMBER MUSIC: This special class is open by audition to pianists, string and wind players who are more advanced than their age and grade level. You will be coached by our Honors Faculty - made up of UM Frost School of Music professors, selected Frost Graduate students, and artists who love to work with exceptional young musicians. Once you are accepted, you will receive your chamber music piece. You are expected to arrive at camp with your part already learned. (your private music teacher at home can help you!) Each chamber music group will perform in our special Honors Chamber Music Final Concert where you will also receive a certificate of participation, signed by your Honors professors.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR AUDITION FOR THE HONORS ENSEMBLE

  • Every applicant must submit an audition postmarked by APRIL 15. Send it to: youngmusicianscamp@gmail.com
  • The audition should be no longer than 10 minutes. It should be a video and may be recorded on a phone.
  • The video should show the entire body of the performer and instrument. In the case of a grand piano, the entire length of this instrument does not need to be included in the video.
  • Audition should consist of 2 pieces in contrasting styles. The performance of each piece must be continuous, with no editing, however the segment could start and end at any time to keep to the time limit.
  • An accompanist is not required, nor is it required to memorize your part.
  • Campers applying for the Honors Program will be notified by May 1 and will also be given their music assignment at that time.
  • There is a separate fee for this extra class.
  • Campers MUST SUBMIT a preliminary video of their performance of their chamber music part by JUNE 1, in order to show their progress and to receive final approval of participation in the Honors Program.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons given by our camp staff may be scheduled after regular dismissal. The lessons are one hour long and all of the instructors are part of our camp faculty. The classes are held daily, except for the last day of the session. Once your camper has attended all the daily classes and met the faculty, email the camp the following information: name of professor your child would like a lesson with and on what instrument. Send to: youngmusicianscamp@gmail.com and we will tell you the days the professor is available for lessons. The camp cannot re-schedule a missed private lesson.

EXTENDED CARE

Supervised before and after care is available.
Before Care: 7:30 am - 9:00 am
After Care: 3:45 pm - 6:00 pm

NOTE: students who enroll in an optional class from 4:00-5:00, may be supervised in After-Care from 5:00-6:00 for no additional After-Care charge. Please notify the camp if this applies to your camper!

HOW TO APPLY

Please follow these steps to Register:

Click on the "Register Here" Link for the Track that applies to you below. The Link will take you to the Session Selection Page and the Cart for your Program. There is no need to filter or search for your Program on the Session Selection Page as long as you used the correct "Register Here" Link for your specific Program. Make sure you know the e-mail address of your music teacher. Also, please decide if you want to add an optional class and/or a private lesson for an additional fee.

On the Session Selection Page, Click on the "ADD TO CART" Link for your Program. Make sure the Program Name and Track are correct. Your Program will automatically move into "YOUR SHOPPING CART". Click on the CONTINUE Link in the Shopping Cart, which will take you to the Registration Information Page where you can begin the registration process.

Complete the following information to Register.

  • Section 1: Enter Your Email Address and Click "NEXT".
  • Section 2: Enter Participants & Options. Complete the required Participant Information. "Session Options" for your program will be pre-selected. Additional classes offered appear as "Optional Classes" and may be selected by checking the appropriate Box or Boxes. Click CONTINUE.
  • Section 3: Please complete the Registration Forms, including the Waivers and Agreements, and sign your Digital Signature. Click "CONTINUE TO CART".

Review Cart & Check out. Review the accuracy of the "ORDER DETAILS". If you have a Coupon Code, enter it now.

Go to the "CHECK OUT" Section and select either "PAY IN FULL" or "Pay $0.00 now, and then Pay Balance manually".

Click COMPLETE and you will receive a Confirmation E-mail with the details of your Order.

You can login to your Online account at any time to verify your registration and pay your balance. A $200 deposit is required to reserve your child's place and an additional $200 to reserve the Dormitory. This includes your $40 ($75 after April 1) non-refundable Registration Fee. Deposits are due within 10 days of registration. There will be NO refunds issued except for a documented medical emergency. Full payment is due 1 month prior to the start of each session.

You will receive an e-mail confirmation when your payment has been processed.
