Vocal Camp
Camp Description
The Vocal Program is designed to give vocal students a thorough grounding in correct vocal technique as well as experience in various styles of singing. Students in the Elementary Program will concentrate on learning the basics of Singing and participate in Chorus and Musical Theater. Students in the Intermediate Program will have the unique experience of performing in a Jazz Vocal Ensemble (no experience required!) and vocalists in the Pre-College/Honors Programs can choose to perform in the Jazz or Classical Vocal Ensemble.
All vocalists study Technique. This class covers the basics of good vocal production from beginning to advanced levels. Intermediate/Pre-College/Honors students have the opportunity to perform a prepared solo in any style in a master-class setting. A pianist is on staff to accompany the singers. How to prepare for an audition is also taught in this class.
Musical Theater is offered for all levels. Students perform a scene from a Broadway musical with simple props, costumes, and choreography. Students who audition and are selected for the Honors Musical Theater Program receive intensive instruction and are featured in the Honors Recital.
Music Theory
Music Theory is part of the curriculum for all levels and a pre-test is given at the beginning of camp for placement purposes. Not a lecture class with worksheets, the Young Musicians’ Music Camp theory classes incorporate performing experiences for a hands on music theory class. Older students who are inexperienced music readers will be enrolled in our Boot Camp Music Theory ( THIS is the summer to learn how to read!!!) and advanced students will be placed in Form & Analysis – a college level course. Younger students will have fun learning music theory by playing games.
